Job Description: The Architecture Unit of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s Engineering Department is seeking an Architectural Associate to join a staff of architects, landscape architects, model makers, and graphic designers working in a multi-disciplinary design division on projects within the Agency!

About the Firm: We are an award-winning unit that provides a broad range of design services that includes site and transportation planning, building programming, architectural design, landscape design, graphic and way-finding design; all developed within a practice of sustainable design and design excellence. Our portfolio includes an impressive array of transportation and infrastructure programs including: the World Trade Center complex, PATH, John F. Kennedy International Airport, LaGuardia Airport, Newark Liberty International Airport, and many more bus, bridge, tunnel, and port facilities in the New York and New Jersey metropolitan region.

About the Role: The Associate Program is a unique two-year rotational program, which upon successful completion, culminates with a permanent position at an Agency that has a profound impact on millions of residents and visitors annually. Associates engage in a series of hands-on rotations on projects of various scales, working closely with different engineering and architecture disciplines. Each rotation offers a broader perspective and experience of transportation infrastructure design, effectively equipping them for a career as a Port Authority Architect.

In the program, Associates are partnered with mentors and earn AXP hours toward licensure. In addition to these development opportunities, the Agency pays for all ARE testing and licensure fees and provides Associates with a generous tuition reimbursement program. As of 2024, there are close to 200 program alumni still working at the agency and many of our Associates have gone on to become managers, directors, and chiefs at the Port Authority!

Qualifications: The 2025 Engineering and Architecture Associate Program is open to students graduating with a professional bachelor’s or master’s degree in architecture between September 2024 and May 2025.
