Colloquia

Mahdi Sabbagh and Linda Quiquivix

Spatial Narratives of Solidarity

Spatial Narratives of Solidarity poster

Even as empires tighten their means of control over space and time, movements of resistance, refusal and repair are on the rise around the world. In this conversation organized by the MED Working Group on Anti-Racism, Mahdi Sabbagh and Linda Quiquivix will shift the focus from narratives of settler colonialism to foreground continuing practices of dissent as the grounds for global solidarity. Looping between Palestine and Chiapas, architecture and geography, divided cities and olive groves, they will unpack cultures and spaces of resistance to imagine how we can build a world where many worlds fit.

Speakers:
Mahdi Sabbagh: Mahdi Sabbagh is a practicing architect, urbanist, and editor. He is part of Palfest, the Palestine Festival of Literature. In 2019 he curated the festival around the theme of Urban Futures: Colonial Space Today. He holds a Masters in Architecture from Yale.

Linda Quiquivix: Quiqui is a popular educator, writer, translator and geographer based in California. She accompanies under-resourced communities in the U.S., Mexico, and Palestine focusing on areas of clean water and land while mapping their struggle from below and to the left.
