Violette de la Selle
Violette de la Selle is an architect and founding member of Citygroup, an architecture collective and project space in New York City. In addition to exhibitions and regular gatherings, Citygroup hosts Dialogue not Monologue, a debate series Violette co-organizes that challenges the habits of architectural practice. Citygroup was recognized by The Architectural League of New York with a League Prize in 2022, and by the AIA Chapter of New York as a part of the 2020 cohort of New Practices New York. Citygroup is also the recipient of multiple Graham Foundation Grants to Organizations. For her research into the continued use and transformations of buildings in Lower Manhattan with Wes Hiatt, Violette received a NYSCA Grant in 2023.
Violette earned her Masters in Architecture at Yale and her Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Virginia. At Yale, she co-edited the journal Perspecta 49: Quote with Russell LeStourgeon and AJ Artemel. Her writing is also published in Exhibit A: Exhibitions That Transformed Architecture, E. Pelkonen, Ed. (New York: Phaidon, 2018), AA Files, the New York Review of Architecture and San Rocco.
Violette recently worked as a project manager with Becker + Becker on renovating and transforming the Pirelli Building in New Haven into the net zero Hotel Marcel. She previously worked at SHoP Architects in New York and Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners in London.
