Michael Young
Michael Young is an Associate Professor and Coordinator of Graduate Studies at The Irwin S. Chanin School of Architecture at the Cooper Union. He is a Registered Architect in the State of New York.
He is a founding partner of the architectural design practice Young & Ayata. They have received the Progressive Architecture Award, Design Vanguard Award, Young Architects Prize, and the Architecture Award from the American Academy of Arts & Letters. In international competitions, Young & Ayata received a first-place prize for the design of the Bauhaus Museum in Dessau, Germany, and a first-place prize for the New Agricultural Management Institute, Gyeongsangbuk-do, S. Korea. Their apartment building DL1310 in Mexico City, was a nominee for the Mies van der Rohe Crown Hall Americas Prize, and the recipient of the AIANY Honor Award. The work of Young & Ayata has been exhibited nationally and internationally.
Michael is the author of The Estranged Object (Graham Foundation 2015) and Reality Modeled After Images (Routledge 2022).
Michael was the recipient of the 2019-20 Rome Prize from the American Academy in Rome.
