Ehsan Alam

Ehsan Alam is an Architectural, Urban, and Environmental Designer whose work engages design at the intersection of hydrology, urban aspirations, and spatial justice in the face of asymmetrical environmental violence. Ehsan is a Master of Environmental Design (MED) student at the Yale School of Architecture where he is currently exploring the climate crisis in Bangladesh through lenses of cosmology and speculative counter-futures. He holds a Bachelor of Architecture from BRAC University, Bangladesh (2021) and a Master of Urban Design from the University of Michigan (2024). He has engaged with the built environment through a series of roles spanning research, teaching, and practice. At the University of Michigan, he contributed to stormwater management research for Southeast Michigan, and conducted remote sensing and GIS-based research on hydrology and urbanism in Bangladesh at the Hydrology, Land Cover & Climate Change Lab (HYLUCC). He holds teaching appointments at Yale School of Architecture, and previously taught at the University of Michigan, and BRAC University, where he also served as a Lecturer. In Bangladesh, he has worked as a practicing architect and urban designer, engaging directly with communities on projects spanning water-front redevelopment, public buildings, and informal urbanism. These endeavors across diverse geographies are informed by a shared commitment to rethinking water urbanisms, landscape, and infrastructure through collective and ecological lenses, grounding spatial practice in the lived realities of communities most affected by environmental transformation.
