Project Description

In a time when the effects of climate change are becoming ever more apparent, this proposal aims to generate a functional, walkable neighborhood as well as wider interest in protecting Florida’s natural landscape. A range of housing typologies, a recreational campground, and an ecological research center, all situated on the easternmost parcel of the site, respond to and connect people with the deep ravines, natural springs, and endangered longleaf pines of the Nokuse steepheads. The research center contains laboratories, exhibition space, a curated library, an events space, a cafe, an auditorium, and an outdoor amphitheater. The complex is based loosely on Floridian vernacular structures and responds to solar orientation, local wind patterns, and topography at the nexus of the statewide trail system.
