Course
Advanced Design Studio: A Sustainable Museum Dedicated to Sake

Project Description

Idiosyncrasies and intimacies in the historic context and the rhythm of the adjacent machiyas inform the massing of the brewery. Continuous segments of the sake brewing process are distributed within a single shell, allowing for sequential stages to continue linearly through a single space. Shell enclosures respond to the thermal sensitivities of the brewing process by modulating daylight, temperature, humidity, and ventilation while housing all building systems dependent on each use. Narrow corridor spaces serve as a palate cleanser for guests as they move between the discrete brewing processes. The brewery becomes a gallery of the vanishing tradition of sake brewing.
