Project Description

In the future, libraries will be augmented by technologies already within reach. Books have transformed into objects rarely experienced without a digital interface. This Amazon-esque querying has led to algorithmically generated suggestions that can clairvoyantly predict a user’s interests and browsing habits. Drone deliveries suddenly centralize branch libraries, giving them expedient access to the entire library system. Radio frequency identification tags and robotic arms optimize logistics, and shelves can be infinitely rearranged, creating ad hoc personal libraries with suggested materials. The architecture conceals algorithmic machine-learning processes and reintroduces serendipity into the library. Small glimpses are the only insight into the occult processes of the algorithmic world.
