Mixed-Use Regeneration: Old Oak London

Project Description

Old Oak Common will host the first new rail station to be built in London in over a century. Joining Crossrail and the Northern Line of the High Speed Rail network–and with the station as the primary figure of the centrally focused plan–transportation and infrastructure will become the heart of twenty-first century London. Drawing from two iconic urban features, this station navigates the concerns of a central public space with high volumes of automobile traffic by blending the roundabout with the civic square. The circular plan opens to three distinct plazas and creates multiple points of entry. The station becomes more than a hub by gathering people from across the development into a central garden courtyard. An interior boulevard invites visitors to stroll freely through the building, anchoring it as a social destination as well. Its perimeter offers retail and restaurant opportunities open to the plazas and Paddington Canal.
