Title

Toward an Open Concert Hall

Authors
Shuangjing Hu

Course
Advanced Design Studio: Gehry

Project Description

The contemporary concert hall should break away from an enclosed and exclusive system to embrace the common public, together with classical music. This concert hall project opens up itself to the city through the setting of a sunken auditorium that is accessible at ground level. The transparent “cracks” break the back walls of the hall to allow visual connection between the inside and the outside and provide spaces for flexible performance that engages both the outdoors and the indoors. The perimeter of the concert hall is programmed to accommodate everyday recreational activities, with the roof garden and sunken amphitheater that are also designed for outdoor performance, contributing to the vitality of this area.
