Tectonic Tower

Project Description

Thoughts of post war East Berlin, steeped in myth and popular culture, evoke a stark and cold city under the thumb of totalitarian regime in the guise of an egalitarian utopia. This view is not so dissimilar to that with which much contemporary architectural discourse seems to view the fundamental principals of the tectonic. This project is about fundamentals and their relationship to a past of popular culture mixed with a past of urban fabric. It raises questions of façade, the relationship of exterior articulation to interior space and the significance of the tectonic in defining the gravitas of base and its coalescence with spire.
