Title

Tower

Authors

Course
Advanced Design Studio: Berlin Alexanderplatz

Project Description

Against weightless, context-less glass towers which now proliferate, this tower celebrates its mass and materiality. Beginning with a series of superimpositions, from the large scale cruciform tower merged with a spiralling series of setbacks down to the language of its stone cladding, the tower’s massing and façade articulation make it seem both stable yet upwardly dynamic. In a context where walls have been profoundly divisive, the wall of the tower is conceived as something connecting its inner world to the city; each apartment possesses inhabitable spaces within the wall, ranging from window seats to loggias and terraces.
