Project Description

Using Bushwick’s street art as a point of departure, this project explores how accreted layers can obscure spatial boundaries and transform each other through superposition. Much of the existing building is preserved, and sections of its facade contribute to a new collage. The volume recedes, replaced by planes and striated space.

Thin spaces emerge between delaminated layers, revealing the disjunctions that occur when two-dimensional graphic systems are projected onto forms. Gaps permit readings between perspective and elevation, while moderating natural light. The plan’s perimeter accommodates stacks and study spaces, while the facades complicate any delimitation of the interior.
