Project Description

This project examines Adolf Loos’s ideas regarding the public expression of residential urban architecture. The research culminated in the design of a facade, according to Loos’s principles, for an alternative Strada Novissima called Strada Vecchia. The overall composition is dictated by classical principles and adheres to Loos’s volumetric and spatial perception of architecture. Both the extrusion in the first floor and the recession in the ground floor testify to the above, whereas the use of Doric columns refers to the classical tradition, often quoted in Loos’s work. The entrance recession is reminiscent of the Loosian idea of a transitory space, in which a process of cleansing occurs before one can enter the sanctum of the house.
