Project Description

This speculative proposal for a seed library is set on a fictional Palm Springs landscape that synthesizes the converging ecological issues of the terrain. Palm Springs is experiencing extreme subsidence due to global warming and the water table has been dropping roughly 10 feet every 50 years as a result. This proposal for a research and storage facility embeds itself within the bedrock making it immune to subsidence. The modulated bars are carved, added, and inserted in the landscape. During the first year of the facility’s tenure, only four buildings will be exposed with tunnels collecting the remaining buried structures. However, over 50 year intervals, more of the structures will be revealed transforming tunnels into open air walkways. This provocation is represented as a core sampling of bedrock and sinking landscape.
