Project Description

Gloucester’s historic identity is under siege. Global capital is challenging its sense of place while ruthless development is erasing local fishing traditions. Rather than forced preservation, this project establishes the Gloucester Maritime Trade Campus as an institution capable of empowering Gloucester with social, economic, and political impetus, firmly reinvigorating its identity. Therefore, the GMTC brokers a zero-sum balance between tourists, the maritime community, business development, and working class professionals by fusing fishing, logistics operations, boat crafting, and ship maintenance with forms of curatorial and educational practice. The shoreline is consequently re-shaped with nodes that amplify existing activities and open programming.
