Project Description

The extension to the Fair Haven Library is conceived from a deep understanding of the given site; confronting inherent problems relating to its context and outlined objectives. For one, Fair Haven is a place that straddles awkwardly between being an independent identity and an extension of New Haven. Adding to the complexity, the project requisites demand of a 6 lane competitive pool typology that significantly exceeds the site’s spatial capacity.

The design pays homage to the water tower, symbolically celebrating its historical significance as the center of the city. The trapezoidal form, as a result of elevating the pool, together with its sympathetic integration with the existing Fair Haven Library and a simplicity in finishing, exhibits a striking yet unique presence in the greater Fair Haven community.
