Project Description

This project seeks to establish a commons in the space between the Carnegie library, the school, and the supermarket. This commons will provide a practical set of spaces to facilitate URI’s mission while simultaneously foregrounding that work, and making both the labor and the results a highly prized and glorified centerpiece of the new urban space. To create this commons, as well as to house the necessary supportive program, two timber structures are erected to provide pressure on the entrances to the commons, and to act as a backdrop for the hustle and bustle of the shared space. Finally, the Carnegie library is refitted to act as a botanical library and tree nursery.
