Boston City Hall Plaza
Project Description
Interiority is most often defined as the “quality of being interior”. However, this is not the only definition. It can also be defined as a layering of space, disordered views, endlessness, compression and so on. Simply put, it is a space lacking a clear definition of boundary. This project involves redesigning Boston City Hall’s plaza by studying it’s already highly interiorized building. We started by categorizing the strengths of the building: scaling tricks, dueling voids, centripetality and diffused boundaries. Then implementing these designs into a rendering to create an intertwined maze of spaces from regularized units. Our goal was to activate the rejected plaza space by creating a space of interiority that seamlessly transitions into the existing building.
